Pledges

Zero-AI Pledge

As an individual/on behalf of a group, I pledge not to use generative AI in the creation of any public-facing creative work I produce. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Books/essays/articles
  • Artworks/visual art
  • Scripts/plays/stage productions
  • Websites/blog posts
  • Video games
  • Concept art/storyboarding
  • Music
  • Performance art

For the purposes of this pledge, “generative AI” refers to tools that generate novel creative content (text, image, audio, video, or code) from a prompt. This pledge does not cover AI-assisted proofreading, translation, or accessibility tools used on human-authored work.

I acknowledge that the efficiency or convenience gained by using generative AI in these instances does not outweigh the harm it introduces. In particular, many artists point to:

  • Spreading bias
  • Copyright infringement and plagiarism
  • Environmental impact
  • Erosion of human culture

I acknowledge that the use of generative AI in creative work risks eroding human culture. The creation and consumption of art has a significant impact on human wellbeing, mental health, and life satisfaction. In signing this pledge, I commit to producing my creative work without the use of generative AI, and to preserving the value of human-made cultural artefacts.

If signing as an individual, your name will be visible on the signatories list on our website. If signing on behalf of a group, only the group name will be visible.

Your email address will never be publicly shared.

Honest-AI Pledge

As an individual/on behalf of a group, I pledge to publicly declare any and all use of generative AI in the creation of any public-facing creative work I produce. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Books/essays/articles
  • Artworks/visual art
  • Scripts/plays/stage productions
  • Websites/blog posts
  • Video games
  • Concept art/storyboarding
  • Any other creative work

For the purposes of this pledge, “generative AI” refers to tools that generate novel creative content (text, image, audio, video, or code) from a prompt. This pledge does not require disclosure of AI-assisted proofreading, translation, or accessibility tools used on human-authored work.

Where generative AI is used, I commit to disclosing it clearly and specifically. This means noting which tool was used and for what part of the work (e.g. drafting, image generation, editing) in the work’s credits, description, or accompanying materials.

I acknowledge that generative AI carries real risks to culture and to the creative industries, including:

  • Spreading bias
  • Copyright infringement and plagiarism
  • Environmental impact
  • Erosion of human culture

In order to mitigate these risks, I pledge to declare my use of generative AI publicly and specifically. The purpose of this is to restore a culture of trust around creative work. The creation and consumption of art has a significant impact on human wellbeing, mental health, and life satisfaction. In signing this pledge, I commit to transparency about AI’s role in my process, and to preserving the value of human-made cultural artefacts.

A good statement names the tools, the stages of work involved (ideas, drafts, editing, final output), and a rough proportion.

Your email address will never be publicly shared.
